A Study on the Effectiveness of Psychodrama for Violent Married People

Abstract
Objective: This study is to identify the effectiveness of psychodrama program for violent married people on their individual and interpersonal characteristics, and to provide suggestions to prevent relapses.

Subjects: Participants were 9 people who were referred from the court for counseling due to repeated violent acts toward each other, and 4 couples were included in 9; one couple dropped after the first 2 sessions; so 7 people attended 12 psychodrama sessions from July till September 2012.

Method: Their personality pattern and need type were evaluated in general, and 7 variables including communication style, anger expression pattern, alcohol problem severity, self-esteem, marriage satisfaction, mariage stability, and self-esteem were compared before and after the psychodrama program.

Result: Results showed that psychodrama significantly reduced marriage satisfaction, drinking problem and anger acting-out pattern, and increased self-esteem. This indicates that psychodrama can be useful to prevent relapse and be utilized for violent couple therapy.
